The year before, the British Columbia Electric Railway had recently announced that its streetcar system would be replaced with buses. The British Columbia Electric Railway was a bit of an anomaly: it began its life as a transit operator that happened to own an electric utility, because electric streetcars required electric power. By 1945, the electricity generating
