1874 The Falls Bridge Lonsdale Street A lithograph from 1847 lookingA rare photograph of "The Falls Bridge" in 1874. This bridge was erected in 1860 to provide a way of moving traffic between the north and south banks of the Yarra. It straddled the Falls themselves, and they are visible in this photo. The bridge and the Falls were removed in 1883 to make way for today's Queens Bridge, which opened in 1890. The Falls were an ancient line of basalt rock that crossed the river Yarra near where Queens Bridge stands today.
