The trick with designing these types of cards is making sure the discard effect feels like an organic part of the card by having it connect mechanically to the main card

Much of my focus is obsolescence: Did Wizards make a card that makes this one pointless to own, and if so, how close in time to the worse card did they do this

The immense flexibility in when and how often to use their cards lets the sacrifice player shuffle key pieces between zones to dodge almost any removal or potentially beat attempts at disruption while going off by just re-initiating their combo on top of the stack
